What is Buddhism?

April 15th, 2008 by Steve Cioccolanti

True Buddhism is following Buddha, an Indian prince who was willing to give up his wealth, his tradition, and even his original religion (Hinduism), to search for the way to be free from karma. Buddha attained a level of wisdom that is admirable and is evidenced by his many parables largely unknown to the West. From Buddha to Jesus offers several key parables into English.

Today Buddhism is a mix of Hindu idol worship, animism and local superstition. Unlike the picture of harmony painted by TV celebrities, it is fragmented into many sects and denominations which disagree with each other and would probably not be recognizable to Buddha if he were here today.
